A Level students get a taste of the law

Law students at MKB

A Level students from Barnsley Sixth Form College are getting a taste of the legal life thanks to MKB Solicitors LLP.

The five Law students are taking part in a four-week work experience placement where they have the opportunity to shadow Solicitors, attend Court and observe client meetings.

Sam Kinghorn, Luke Thompson, Emma Peacock, Megan French and Ella Barker are working with five Solicitors from the Barnsley-based law firm.

Sam, 17, of Barnsley Road, Dodworth, said: “I am hoping to study Law at Nottingham Trent University after I complete my A Levels so this opportunity is really useful.  We have been able to get an idea of what life as a Solicitor is like, see some case files, attend court and ask questions about the profession.”

Solicitor James Burgess said: “A work-experience placement like this helps students interested in a career in Law to understand what Solicitors do day-to-day.  It’s great to work with the students and we can also help them by acting as mentors and answering any questions they have about progressing into a career in Law.”

Trainee Solicitor Rianne Wilcockson added: “Law can be a competitive profession to get into so it’s really important that students get experience like this to add to their CVs and UCAS applications”.
